How many of you say, “I just don’t have the time to do all that?” Well, smoothies are not only the perfect time saver, they are a power packed, energy lifting, vitamin/mineral gold mines, and easy to absorb food. That’s right, food! You are feeding yourself amazing food!
Excuses be gone! Seriously, you really need to give yourselves the few minutes it takes to blend these “health in a glass” drinks.
The first few times you make them might take a little longer, but as you saw in the video, the whole process was under 3 minutes.
The beauty is you can add or replace any of the ingredients with your favorite fruits and vegetables. You can customize them any way you like.
For example, I went to get pears and oranges to make the Kale/Chard smoothie and none were ripe yet. So I grabbed the only fruit available (winter in Chicago) an apple and a banana. I blended it up with the Kale and Chard and it was wonderful. My niece happened to be there, and since it tasted like banana, she drank it. To me, getting those greens in are so important.
Another great thing about any green smoothie is they travel very well. When I’m going to be gone all day I make mine in the morning and put it in a to go container and then in a cooler bag.If I’m on the road for a long time I’ll throw in a small reusable ice block in and it keeps it cold for hours. When your ready to drink it you shake it up well and enjoy. Personally, I don’t travel very far with the berry smoothie with because I love the consistency of it right out of the blender.
When I first started with these smoothies I would drink them at the time of day when I became tired and craved bad-for-me food. It gave me so much energy and took away all cravings… yes, I said ALL CRAVINGS!
I have invested in a Vitamix because I use it 2 to 3 times a day. It is expensive, but I was going through less expensive blenders so fast that it has now ended up saving me money in the long run. (It’s great for soups too.)
If you have a regular blender make sure you defrost your strawberries and blackberries (PLEASE NOT IN THE MICROWAVE) before you make your berry smoothie. As for the Kale/Chard smoothie, break up the greens really small and add slowly to your blender. Depending on the blender, adding water helps to take pressure off the unit.
So be patient the first few times you try to make these. It becomes so fast and easy in no time. You’ll feel so good drinking them you won’t want to be without them. I had to beg my husband to try them and now he doesn’t want to go a day without them. He counts on his berry smoothie in the morning to start the day and his green smoothie when he gets home.
A quick tip, have a smoothie a half hour before you go out to dinner. You’ll make much better food choices and you won’t over eat.
A great book that influenced my smoothies is “Green For Life” by Victoria Boutenko. It’s also listed on our “Things We Love” list.
Cheers to you and your health!!!
