4th of July: The Most Romantic Holiday Of All
July 4th is best known as Independence Day, but who the heck wants that? That’s a rhetorical question, PS. I know there are some out there who are content being single — especially when a big party day like the 4th is nigh. I’m happy being un-independent, and I’ll tell you why.
The 4th is my favorite holiday. Ever since I was a little kid, something about the beauty of the fireworks, the hush of the crowd, the happiness and awe of even the most jaded hit me right in the heart. Enjoying fireworks in Southern California is icing on the cake: sand between your toes, a beer in your hand, a perfect, almost cool evening sky (unless that pesky June gloom persists in lingering, that is).
Yes, the 4th makes me feel like a kid, but (though I may not act it) I am, in fact, an adult. And this adult thinks that nothing can be more romantic that celebrating Independence Day with a partner. I’m thinking about the fireworks, the sand in my toes, the bottle of wine….all shared. In my head, nothing could be as romantic, as perfect.
Sure, it’s cheesy, but it’s my fantasy, and I’m allowed to have it — or to live it.
It might not happen this year — this year I’ll be spending my favorite holiday with my boyfriend and his family. There will be very little sense and perhaps too much alcohol, and I may not even get to see the fireworks I so love.
But one day, my dream will come true. Maybe not this year, maybe not this 4th, but one day.
May you all find somehow to light that spark this 4th. May you all find someone that makes you feel fireworks.
