In northern climates this is the first month of the year where outdoor weather becomes genuinely nice. Astrologically, this is always the time to consolidate our gains. We have started a new year and now we can relax in the assurance that we really are on a new path. This year we have the ruler of Taurus, Venus, turning Retrograde on the 15th of May. Venus is only Retrograde 40 days every two years. This can be a time of emotional self-examination. There is a preponderance of earth this month. Earth is the element that gives form to our thoughts and feelings. Jupiter (king of the gods) is in Taurus (sign of substance) and making aspects to both Uranus (lord of revolution) and Pluto (god of life and death). We are being asked to enjoy the positive changes we have already made, and to prepare for the big ones coming in our immediate future.
The Full Moon is on May 5th at 11:35 PM EDT. The Full Moon with the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Scorpio is the time of the Wesak Festival. This is the moment when Buddha returns to earth and releases a fresh new energy. For the theosophist, this is the most blessed time of the year and the most fruitful time to meditate. This Full Moon has the Sun (vitality) Conjunct Jupiter (expansion) and Mercury (planet of communication) opposite Saturn (lord of karma). This is a moment of consolidation to redirect our energy into the most productive channels so that we can grow.
The Sun moves into Gemini on May 20th 11:16 AM EDT.
Mercury and Venus are in mutual reception and Semi-sextile each other. We can make rapid progress through discussion and envisioning a new world during this solar month.
With the Sun Square Neptune and Uranus Trine the North Node of the Moon we need to be have faith in ourselves and in life to take this next leap in consciousness. Although Venus Trine Saturn seems to promise stability in relationships, because of the Retrograde motion of Venus, this aspect doesn’t become exact until July 31st; relationships will still be in a state of fluctuation until mid-summer. This month is a time of peeling away layers of habits that have held us back.
The New Moon on May 20th at 7:48 PM EDT is a Solar Eclipse. Eclipses return to the same degree every 18 years. We are finishing up something now that we initiated back in 1994.
Writing back in 1992, Bernadette Brady said of this eclipse,“…..During this Eclipse period individuals should push for the acceptance of their ideas or methodologies as this eclipse can bring the long awaited breakthrough.” With the Sun Contra-parallel Pluto (wealth of the earth) and Conjunct Jupiter (lord of abundance), and Mercury (god of thought) Conjunct and Parallel Jupiter (our inner wisdom) positive thoughts can energize our values and bring ultimate success.
