Astrological Forecast for May 2011
By Bob Mulligan
The whole month of May this year is one of contradictions. On one hand it is a restful month with less activity than the last few. On the other hand, we are actually making some primary changes in our lives because our old methods don’t work anymore. Mars, Venus, and Mercury, as well as the Sun all cross into Taurus, showing our eternal quest for permanent values. In the course of 31 days we will all change some key aspect of our personal and our professional lives. This is shown by the aspect patterns of Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune to the inner planets as the month progresses.
The New Moon is in Taurus on May 3rd at 2:51 AM EDT. This is the time of year when we try to hold on to what sustains us. But this year Venus (ruler of Taurus) is in Aries (sign of the pioneer) Conjunct Mercury, Jupiter, and Mars. With five of the ten planetary bodies in Arieswe still have our full force behind our new and innovative impulses. We are on the move. Going back to the old ways or even settling for where we are now is not an option. Saturn in Libra opposing Venus and Mercury suggests that we will have to reevaluate all our key relationships and those that do not further our growth will either die or transform. Taurus rules money and the Quincunx from the New Moon in Taurus to Saturn shows a crisis in currency which is a reflection of our need to determine what is really important in our lives.
The Full Moon is on May 17th at 7:10 AM EDT. With five of the ten planetary bodies now in earth signs this Full Moon encourages us to focus on our most practical concerns and eliminate waste. With Saturn in hard aspect to both the Sun and Moon we will be called upon to choose the truly important things and to discard the things that no longer serve us….several things we set in motion recently will not work out to be practical, but the good news is, what stays can bring us great joy with relatively little effort.
The Sun enters Gemini on May 21st. This solar month will be dominated with concerns of relationships and primary connections to earth and family. Idealism is a powerful force in the collective consciousness now. However, the pull to be specific, practical, and immediate will win out as the needs of the spirit take a more basic form. God is not to be worshiped as an abstract concept but the bread of life.
From the 1st to the 8th we find ourselves in a mad race to complete any number of different tasks. We do ourselves a big favor by wisely choosing to put our time and energy into the things that promise long term gain and permanent satisfaction.
From the 9th to the 15th overwhelming optimism drives us to accomplish something. Love, honor, and a feeling for the goodness of life is compelling…still there will be some folks on the fanatical edge of this feeling. Passions have little positive meaning unless they are directed toward a greater good.
From the 16th to the 22nd we accomplish much if we understand what we are really responsible for. Time is well spent learning, doing paperwork, and meditating. The outpouring of energy is unstoppable if the healing power of love is promoting it.
From the 23rd to the 31st is a week devoted to love and romance. This does not have to be spent with a loved one necessarily, but with whatever or whoever you have the deepest feeling. We may achieve much with little effort.
