How To Shift Your Energy

I usually wake up feeling fine. Post-oil pulling, I really look forward to that first cup of coffee. After breakfast I walk upstairs to my office. I love my work, but sometimes I walk upstairs feeling lethargic, uninspired, dull. I don’t really know where to start. I feel directionless. There are always so many things I need to be doing but I can’t remember what they are, nothing feels urgent or special. There’s no reason for me to feel this way. I’m healthy, surrounded by loving people. I eat food that energizes me. I exercise. But still I feel blah, grey, low energy. Instead of getting into the work flow that always makes me feel better I start checking out what’s online. Sometimes this is constructive procrastination but we all know when it’s just low energy work-avoidance, right? So how do I shift my energy?

I bet I’m not in alone in approaching my day like this. I ask my guides to keep me in the FLOW. But there are days where it just ain’t happening. What do you do?

Well, first things first. Stop what you’re about to do, put your feet on the ground, legs uncrossed, and take a deep breath in through your nose, hold it in, exhale through your mouth. I close my eyes when I do this. Open your eyes. Take in the present moment. There are days where I need to do this all day to bring focus and a brighter energy in… let’s all do it together right now. Ok, we feel better, for a moment. We raised the vibration in that breath but then we go back to the malaise we were in, so what now?

Go back to the deep breath and this time when you exhale, set an intention. Set an intention your body can respond to, an intention where you feel it in your body. For instance, set an intention for focussed energy, feel the quiet warm, buzz in your brain, while your eyes are closed. Now, move from here, from this place you’ve consciously created. Repeat this step as often as needed.

If you need something more galvanizing than a deep breath and an intention, try a quick meditation. As Deepak Chopra said, Sitting quietly in a meditative state, you can intend anything—love, success, peace, kindness—that you want in your life. Then you let it go so that the invisible organizing power of the body, and the entire universe, can work for you. Don’t force or strain.”

The really cool thing about shifting your energy from a negative state to a balanced, positive one is that the more you do it, the better you feel, and the easier it is to change your energy to one you want.

“The more we own our space from a place of ease and non-resistance, the less we take on and match other energies. But even when we slip or fall into our own funky mood, with awareness, we can shift our energy vibration easily.” Gini Grey

A friend asked me yesterday what if this only works for a little while and then she’s back in her slump, feeling stressed and anxious, unable to focus and shift her energy. My answer: take a deep breath and start over. I’m not sure why we all- I’m so guilty of feeling this- think this is one-time exercise. We need to eat everyday. We don’t just work out once and assume we’ll be fit, so why do we think one deep breath is enough in a blah day?

Here are the basics for changing your energy vibration. First, recognize you’re always in an energy state or vibration. And if you’re not liking what you’re experiencing, recognize what vibration you’re in… oftentimes we don’t recognize we’re vibrating at a very low frequency energy, like anger, sadness.

And here’s Gabriella Fry Chesneau’s advice: stop any outward focus, put your attention on your spine, move your energy up your spine, and make a higher connection. Do this when you’re with someone or in a situation that’s bringing you down, changing your energy, and remember choosing to absorb that mood is a conscious choice. Why would you consciously choose to constrict your energy? You wouldn’t. I’m very absorptive. I have a tendency to absorb the mood of a person, the energy of the room, to want to be part of the experience. But I’m doing myself and others no favor when I vibrate at a lower frequency so that I can better relate to whomever I’m with. Much better to raise their vibration by raising my own, right? So be conscious, be present (go back to the breath, focus on your spine, move the energy up from there, or make an intention).

If you feel your energy dip, what are your thoughts in that moment? The feeling comes first, before you can shift your energy, first identify that feeling, depressed, anxious, worried, sad, whatever it is… What was the thought that made the feeling bad? If you’re in a depressive state, you’re in the past. And if you’re feeling anxious, you’re in the future. When I’m either of these moods, I like to take that deep breath, with my feet on the floor, and ask myself how I feel RIGHT NOW. Because when you’re feeling blue, feeling anxious, in the past or the future, there’s nothing happening in your present moment. You just changed your perspective. And shifting perspective, shifts energy.

Another key thing I’m learning is that changing my energy is not this labored work; it’s fast; it’s easy. Moving my energy from constriction to expansion takes seconds (literally, sometimes a second) and then I feel back in alignment, back in connection with the oneness that we really never leave.

Here’s to deep breaths, shifting energy, and feeling good!
