Recently I took a couple of wrong turns here, too much heavy-lifting there, which resulted in a painful shoulder injury. For a month I ignored the pain, pushed perhaps a little too hard. And now: I’m grounded. It will probably take another month before I’m able to resume normal activity…
In retrospect I could have slowed down while the damage was minimal, even stop until it was completely healed, as was recommended by the health care specialist. But, I didn’t. Why? It’s not me.
I’m an over-achiever, always have been, always will be. I like myself that way. The same applies to my diet, sometimes I binge, and other times I’ll starve myself. Does it make sense? Maybe not to you, but it does to me!
In fact every experience for me is spontaneous. As my daughter would say to me hysterically laughing: “Mom, where did that thought come from? You’re so random!” Of course she also adds that I’m scattered, impulsive or just plain crazy… I know!
So please, don’t try to change who you are for anyone! Be yourself. More importantly, know yourself, what makes you laugh, what makes you cry, what motivates you, and what you should avoid. If others don’t agree, that’s ok- just remember they’re not you!
