Not only is Rebecca Swenson amazingly happy, cheerful, fit and a doting mom to 3 year old Luca, but she regularly kicks my ass at yoga sculpt. She teaches a class at 10AM every Sunday, and we die. It’s always challenging, fun, and different. And my body has gotten so much more toned and tight thanks to Rebecca’s class. So when we wanted to do a series of workout episodes, targeting specific areas like abs, arms, booty, inner thighs, I knew we had to use Rebecca for at least a few of them. And she was gracious enough to create these workouts for us to do everyday, less than 5 minutes long, and you will see a difference. Here’s our Happiness Series interview with my good friend and teacher, Rebecca. And check out our episode with her, do the workout, get an instant booty lift.
Q: Why did you become a yoga teacher?
A: I became a yoga teacher because of my passion for the practice, the feeling that I wanted to share with others through doing yoga, the mind/body/spirit connection. To help people find their own sense and connection to self. I started practicing and felt like whatever else was happening in my life, yoga was something where I could always come to my mat and create a space for myself and connect to the things that were more important in life.
Q: What inspired you to work in fitness?
A: Seeing people struggling with body issues and self-worth. I’ve been on a long journey myself to feeling good about my body. I wanted to share that with others, share that you can do it, you can feel good. I started Weight Watchers over 10 years ago and have always been physically active. But it was finally through yoga that all things come together for me. Mind/Body/Spirit
Q: What was your work before yoga teaching?
A: I was in corporate marketing for over 10 years doing event and brand marketing.
Q: What in your day makes you happiest?
A: When my workout is done and I’m having my first cup of coffee! I feel so good afterwards, and my day just goes so much better. My attitude is better, and I’m better at being present to spend time with my 3 year old.
Q: What’s your happiest moment in a relationship, romantic and otherwise?
A: A very happy moment for me still is when my son was born… it’s a bond and connection that I cherish, even if it’s the hardest thing i’ve ever done!
Q: What’s your favorite workout?
A: My very favorite workout is an hour of dance ,followed by doing Physique 57, followed by some yoga and core work! About 3 hours… haha!
Q: What makes you feel good?
A: Eating well, taking care of myself physically and mentally, allowing myself to take time out for fun things. I’m pretty hard on myself, so it’s important to remember to be kind to yourself, even if it’s a little thing like putting on your make-up and lip gloss!
Q: What is your favorite thing about your work?
A: The people! I love my students and all the people that share their passions and struggles. And I love being able to make a small difference in someone’s life for the possitive.
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve been given regarding health & fitness?
A: Take a day off, and savor your food, really enjoy the texture, taste, and eat to nourish your body. And it’s ok to have a treat! (my trainer wouldn’t say that!)
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve been given regarding making a relationship work?
A: Ha. Well, I’ve been married to an Italian for 7 years, and each day is work. The most important thing is respect and making time to listen to each other.
Q: What are you plans for the future?
A: Keep teaching yoga and fitness classes and spending time with my toddler.
Q: Why is fitness important?
A: It’s very grounding and creates a better space for your mind while improving your body. And everything else in your life follows suit making you successful in everything you do.
